Erin Condren Horizontal LifePlanner Tour & Giveaway

Erin Condren Horizontal Life Planner Tour 2018-2019 // Pugs & Pearls Blog

Since 2014 I've been sharing my planners here! I've tried so many different brands of planners, from a Lilly Pulitzer agenda to the Emily Ley Simplified planner. Then last year I decided to switch to solely digital planning. Although I still 100% stand by that system, and will still be maintaining most of it, I did end up buying another planner this year.

There was a shift for me this spring, and as I started juggling a few new responsibilities and jobs I just felt like I needed to start writing things down again. The main way Blake and I communicate with each other's schedule is our Google calendar. So, I will most definitely still be updating our events and family schedule. But, things like my blog, Etsy shop, work, volunteering and personal to-dos need to be written down. I think this is really going to help me keep things straight!

Why I Went With Erin Condren
Erin Condren planning people always seemed to be a little bit extreme to me. All of those stickers! It just seemed time consuming, and more of an art project than a planner. Another blogger recommended the EC notebooks so highly, and as a office supply junkie I had to try one! To say I love those notebooks is an understatement. The paper quality alone is wonderful, and who doesn't love a custom cover??

I was ordering a 3rd notebook when I saw the new release of the 2018-2019 planners. Out of curiosity I browsed the new designs, and of course I was smitten! As I mentioned, I was really feeling the need to begin paper planning again and the great designs sealed the deal. I already knew they'd be of great quality, but I was truly blown away!

My Favorite Features
Year In Review
This is a great yearly overview, and with the clear dot stickers I can easily mark important dates! Fun fact: I keep a list of our friend's and family's anniversaries and try to send them a card each year. I decided to use this page to mark off those dates, so I can quickly glance and see how many cards I need to prepare each month!

Rear Pocket
There are so many uses for this double sided pocket in the back! Right now I'm using it to store my sticker sheets. I can see it being so useful for keeping coupons or mail or really anything. My planner kit also came with a clear zip pouch that is flush with the planner. It's also really convenient to store slips of paper there.

Horizontal Layout
Most of the EC planners that I had seen were the vertical design, and those are the ones that are usually heavy on the stickers! The horizontal layout seemed right up my alley. It's got plenty of lined space to write out your daily schedule. What I most appreciate are the squares on the end of the day's box. It's the perfect place to write your to-do list or a special event. I went through and used that box to write out bills that will be due that day and annual events.

The Cover
Customizing my planner cover was so fun! There are dozens of choices, and then you can customize colors after that. I was stuck between a couple, but I ended up with the Swans design. The color options are amazing-and I of course had to choose cornflower blue.

Monthly Notes
On the last page of the month there is a fully lined page for notes. I decided the perfect use for this page would be a space to write down monthly highlights and gratitudes! I've already numbered each month so it will be easy to quickly jot down something I was grateful for each day.

Alright, so I like the stickers! I really don't see the need to deck my whole planner out in stickers and washi tape-but a few stickers here and there are so cute! My planner came with 3 sheets of stickers, and I bought a few more sheets from Erin Condren as well. Their stickers are colorful and most of them have a really nice metallic accent. I have the travel sticker set, the budget sticker sheets and the transparent dots set

The real find, however, are the customizable stickers! You choose the color and what they say. I did two of these sheets for the events that happen all the time. One color is for vet appointments, another as a reminder to turn in my time, basically the things that are happening monthly that I don't want to write over and over again. Love these! The price is so good too.

Additionally, I picked up a few sheets from Etsy! I adore these pug stickers, and I also really like these payday flags! I accidentally ordered too many of those pay day stickers, and I want to give them away to one of you! Plus a few other goodies. Make sure you enter in the Rafflecopter widget below!

Scenes from New York City!

Since I have well over 500 pictures of our recent trip to New York, I thought I'd share our first and last day in the city. Sandwiched between our days in NYC we spent time all around New York and New Jersey!

We arrived in New York City at 8 am after a 2 hour flight and an hour drive to the airport. (So yeah, we woke up at 2 am that day!) Determined to get the most of our day we popped into a cramped french bakery in Queens for breakfast and then we headed to Battery Park. We went with our good friends Laura and Damon and her girls Bradley and Callie. I swear, just watching those girls have a good time was enough for me!

After exploring Battery Park, we took a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. There were SO many people! My favorite part, by far, was watching everyone try to get a good photo with the Statue of Liberty. People were laying on the ground and contorting their bodies every which way to get the shot! It was great.

Ellis Island was very interesting! The building itself was fascinating, and the stories it had to tell were amazing. Life used to be very hard for people, and it really wasn't all that long ago. You do have to pay to research your own family. My mom let me know that our family didn't come to America through Ellis Island so I knew that ahead of time. One day I'd like to do a big research project about that!

Callie has an extensive 'stuffie' collection, and when she tells you their names you'd better remember, because there will be a test!

These girls had at least 3,000 more steps than us at the end of the day...

Since we were flying out of JFK we spent our last day in the city as well. The majority of our day was spent at The MET! We did a tour, but I swear we only saw 5% of what that museum had to offer. You could get lost in there for days.

After our tour we walked through Central Park, which was something I'd never done. It's huge! People watching is one of my top ten favorite activities, so I fully enjoyed that aspect. After a trip to Bethesda fountain and an ice cream cone, we had to get back to the airport.

This last picture that Laura snapped is so funny to me, because it shows how badly we didn't want to leave our friends! We don't get to see each other nearly enough, and we always have so much to say! They are constantly trying to get us to move up there, and I think they had me almost convinced in this conversation.

The thing is, we were there in June...but our last trip to NYC was in March, and it was the coldest I have ever been in my life. I'm a Florida girl...I really don't think I can live in that!

Gosh, I have so much more to share, but I think I will leave it at that. Most importantly we left feeling refreshed and motivated! And we are still friends! Everyone has such a different traveling style, so it's awesome that everything worked out so well on this trip! My favorite thing by far was watching these girls take their first airplane ride. So much joy! I really wish adults still got excited like that.

We've been planning this trip for at least a year, so I can't believe it's over. We had a great time, and really made the most of our days. And coming home to excited pugs was really nice too!

Things to Include in your GO BAG!

Go Bag Essentials // Pugs & Pearls Blog

With Hurricane Irma still fresh in our memories, June 1st marked the beginning of hurricane season! Each year we are admonished to not wait until the last minute and prepare for disasters well in advance. Blake and I have started a habit of auditing our Go-Bags each year on the first day of hurricane season.

What is a Go-Bag you ask? A Go-Bag is a bag/box/bin full of supplies that you can grab-and-go in case of an emergency. I've also heard people call these 'Bug Out Bags'.

Last weekend we went out to dinner with some friends and we all started talking about what was in our Go-Bags. It was actually a really fun conversation, and I got several ideas from the other girls for things to add to my bag.

I thought I'd share with you what was in our bags and see if any of you had suggestions for other things I might be missing!

To begin with, we put off getting these bags together for years! The idea of going to the store with such a long list was so overwhelming. To make it easy on ourselves, we purchased an emergency disaster kit from Amazon. It's not the highest quality, but definitely got us started. The backpacks are very large, and they had plenty of room for us to add our extra stuff.

That kit includes:
- First Aid Kit
- Food Rations
- Ponchos
- Space Blanket
- Flashlight
- Utility Knife
- Body Warmers
- Waterproof Matches
- Clean Drinking Water
- Glowsticks
- Whistle
- Work Gloves
- Water Bottle
- Masks
- 2 Backpacks

Things we added:
- Clothing His and Hers (2 shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of underwear and a sports bra.)
- Toilet Paper
- Tampons
- Deodorant
- Toothpaste
- Toothbrushes
- Chapstick
- Hair Ties
- Bar Soap
- Dry Shampoo
- SPF 70 Sunscreen
- Hand Sanitizer
- Wet Ones Wipes
- Bug Spray
- Duct Tape
- Scissors
- Disposable Gloves
- Tarp
- Towel
- Collapsible Dog Bowls
- Batteries
- Trash Bags
- Water Purifying Kit
- Deck of Cards
- Extra Phone Charger
- Food (non salty, high protein)

Copies of Important Documents (stored in water tight ziplocks):
- Passport / Driver's License
- Social Security Cards
- Birth Certificates
- Marriage License
- Wills and Medical Directives

Things To Grab:
- Dogs
- Leashes
- Dog Food (which I already have in a small portable container.)
- Water Jugs (which obviously don't fit in the backpacks.)
- Any Current Medications

This is not a definitive list, just what we have included in our emergency kit! FEMA has a great PDF you can download with their recommendations. Leave a comment below if you are well prepared for a disaster! I'd love to hear your suggestions for things to include in our bags.

Celebration Pointe & Spending Freeze Update

We popped over to Gainesville last weekend to check out the new Celebration Pointe shopping center. Even though not much is open yet, we really loved walking around! There are a lot of places to sit and hang out, which I think is a great shift in what 'malls' are turning in to.

The real reason this was our destination is because we had plans to see Solo! There is absolutely nothing like a brand new movie theater. I am SO thrilled that theaters let you reserve seats now. The fact that you can show up right on time and know exactly where to sit is great! This theater not only had those comfy reclining seats, but also a tray table for your snacks! I'm easy to please, what can I say?

This outfit is something you will see me in all summer! Thank you to my sister in law who gifted to me this cute bag and sunglasses. Both pieces I don't think I would have ever picked out for myself!

I mentioned earlier this year that I didn't plan on buying any new clothes in 2018.. A lofty goal indeed! I'm about 6 months in, so I wanted to do a little update. Have I succeeded? Yes and No....

I went a solid 4 months without a single purchase. That was incredibly beneficial. I really got to see what pieces are MVPs in my closet, and I was able to tell really quickly what I still didn't gravitate towards. It made me more creative with outfits, and I made a big effort to wear everything in my closet. In fact, by the beginning of May, I had 2 trashbags full of clothing to either donate or sell. My personal style became even more clear with this project.

In that post, I mentioned that I already knew I was going to need to replace a few items in my closet this year. So, I was sorta setting myself up for failure! Mainly I knew I was going to be replacing 2 of my favorite skirts. I got 100% of my money's worth out of those skirts and they were looking terrible! I was able to find the PERFECT replacement for them, and I hope to share an outfit post with that skirt soon.

Additionally, some things have come up this year that required some purchases:

Florida weather being as unpredictable as it is, I found a gap in my spring wardrobe. Meaning we actually had a bit of spring! Usually we get a month or two of winter and then it's back up in the 80s. I really needed some kind of transitional sweater/top that wouldn't be as thick as my winter clothing but still appropriate for the chill. I was able to find 2 crewneck sweaters from Old Navy that are may be the cutest things I've ever owned. I only got to wear them a few times and then the temperature went up! I can't wait to wear them again!

Also, as I think I've mentioned before, Blake and I started doing some volunteer construction work that requires long pants but not jeans. That was something I did not have at all! I picked up 3 pairs of work pants from Old Navy (they've been killing it this year!). These pants have been great, and I can wear them to work as well.

The first impulse buy was this dress from Target. I had an event to go to, and I reallyyy wasn't feeling any of the dresses I had. So, when I saw this dress I really buckled. It was under $30 and I have never gotten more compliments on a dress before. I did take off that hideous belt and add my own.

Which brings me to this post! The top I'm wearing is another new item. In the same shipment, I bought another skirt and plain off-white top to go with it. (Have I talked about how much I love and wear skirts?) The skirt and top were an intentional purchase, and the top I'm wearing here was an afterthought. A moment of weakness! I was compelled to buy it because it is SO me.

All in all, a hand full of new clothes in 6 months isn't a failure to me. I really would like to go the rest of the year without buying anything at all, but I'm not sure if that is going to happen. As I've learned, things come up and that's totally okay.

I'm sure I will feel more strongly by the end of the year, but I know this was a great project to take on! Challenging yourself from time to time is so important. Auditing yourself and your habits is a key to growth. My spending habits have become really clear to me, and I can already tell what triggers me to want to shop. Hopefully I can use that knowledge to continue this goal for the rest of the year!

Leave a comment below if you love the fact that you can reserve seats at movie theaters now! How are you doing with your goals? Did you think I could go a whole year without buying anything? Even I knew I couldn't!

May Highlights

I shared a few things that have been going on around our house in the Just 5 Things post earlier in the month, but as I was scrolling through my camera roll I saw that I had a lot more to share! Maybe this will end up being a monthly tradition.

Auntie Life
A highlight of my life is certainly being an Aunt to these crazy kids! I got to spend a lot of time this month with Carter, since he was going a little stir crazy with his new baby brother in the house. I think my sister needed a break too. He turned 4 this month and my goodness is he at a fun age!

We joke that he only likes to come over to our house to play with the pugs and Blake's Star Wars stuff! His Uncle Blake bought a new Star Wars lego set for them to build together. It's probably too advanced for him right now, but they will try anyway.

Plenty of baby Lennox snuggles too!

This picture cracks me up! I had Zane (Blake's sister's son) over one day too, and he made quite the hammock between the couch and ottoman. He was perfectly content there for a long time, but as soon as I took out my phone to take the picture he slipped! (LOVING our new ottoman, by the way!)

Pug Life
I haven't been great about posting pug pictures on the @dellyandfriends Instagram account this month, but that doesn't mean I didn't take a ton of pug pictures! The pugs are doing just fine, with nothing new to report. They are so snuggly lately I just love it.

Tea Party
Some friends from the congregation threw a little tea party for all the ladies! It was blazing hot, so it was more like a Iced Tea Party. We had so much fun getting together for no reason! Some of the girls really went all out and made their own fascinators!

My niece Gia!

I actually found my Hello Sunshine hat at Walmart! It's adorable and less than $10. Can't wait to wear it to the beach this summer!

Fruits of My Labor
My garden really started producing this month! There are tons of tomatoes every day, and I also have a bunch of great bell pepper plants that are loaded. We also harvested all of my lettuce, which has lasted SO long. I just used the last of it. I love fresh salsa and salads in the summer!

I am also SO excited about the bloom above! I planted that Lily of the Nile plant 7 years ago, and it finally bloomed! It's the little things in life, ya know?

Monthly Favorites
Favorite Song:
Really the entire Greatest Showman soundtrack! I actually went on a run and played this soundtrack, and it may have been the most fun I've ever had! I felt like I was in a parade.

Favorite Show:
Was anyone else obsessed with Planet Earth when it came out in 2006? My family loved it! I was so excited to see season 2 pop up on Netflix. We've been watching it on our 4k TV and I just can't believe how gorgeous the picture is! We aren't finished with the season yet, but it's just as fascinating as the original. The first episode with the lizards and the snakes....holy moly that got my heart racing.

Favorite Diffuser Blend:
I picked up a rosemary essential oil this month, and I have loved diffusing it. The combo below is AMAZING. Super fresh and spa like.

Favorite Recipe:
Blake and I ended up with a surplus of pineapple, and we decided to try this recipe out. It's incredible! We ended up freezing more pineapple to make it again! She has you add quite a bit of sweetener, but I used less than half of the amount and it was still plenty sweet.
