"Do Something Today, That You'll Thank Yourself For Tomorrow."

Like everyone else at this time of year, I do try to set new goals for myself. I sort of do this all year long - If there is room for improvement I really try to tackle it when I notice it. When I started to think of the things I wanted to work on in 2018, I realized it's pretty much the same as last year and the year before. (I'm sure that echos a lot of people's feelings!)

It caught my attention that some people choose a word for the year, or a personal mantra or mission statement. I've also heard it called a Push goal. It's your main mission-the one all your other little goals lead you to. This really resonated with me!

Over the summer, I saw a quote somewhere. It read: "Do Something Today, That You'll Thank Yourself For Tomorrow." I've really been thinking about what that means, and while I have tried to implement that from time to time, I decided I'd like to make that my mission statement for 2018!

Do something today, that you will thank yourself for tomorrow!
In the small things:
Honestly, I think I'm going to use this the most in little ways! It's the small actions each day that will add up to bigger results. I don't even think you have to wait a whole day to see the benefits. Just do something simple now, that you will appreciate later.

- Rinsing dishes as soon as I'm done with them = I won't have to work harder later when things are stuck on them.
- Not sinking into the couch, and spending a few extra minutes tidying the house = I will have less to do in the morning and I can enjoy my breakfast without rushing.
- Doing my workout first thing in the morning = It's done! I can go about the rest of my day feeling great about that, and not have to try to fit it in some other time.
- Going ahead and tossing the food we know we aren't going to eat as leftovers = not having to toss them another day and having a stinking fridge! Haha!
- Bringing my camera with me = I would have so much more to share on the blog if I actually took pictures!

In bigger ways:
This can go so much further than tomorrow. It can mean doing something now that I will thank myself for 5, 10, or 50 years from now.

- Following through with proper skin care routines = great skin when I'm older.
- Saving money = My future self can enjoy trips or my way in the future self will have an easier retirement.
- Making those doctor and dentist appointments that are hard to make for some reason = regular visits are important for your future self!
 - Try that new hobby or craft you've been wanting to = you might actually be good at it, but you need to start now to know!

The more I think about this quote, the more things I jot down to help me achieve this goal. When I succeed, I feel so accomplished and thankful. Downright, proud! Why not give yourself more opportunities to be proud of yourself!?

Leave a comment below if you have ever dedicated a word of the year or have set a personal mission statement! Tell me what you are working on in 2018, even if it's something small!

  1. This is a perfect motto for the year! I can relate so much about making doctor and dentist appointments. I had been putting it off for a while, then got overly anxious about it, and finally made myself go get caught up this past month. Now I feel better and I'm making it a point to keep up with regular visits. Happy 2018!

    1. Thanks Miranda! I don't know why it's so hard to make appointments. It takes all of 5 minutes!

  2. Love this! I set some resolutions in place for 2018. A word of the year never really works out for me. That motto is great! (Although I tossed leftovers I was sure we wouldn't eat and my husband tried to dig through the fridge for them the next day. Whoops!!)
It's not a motto for the year, but I constantly try to live by, "You don't make your flame brighter by blowing out someone else's candle."

    1. Thank you Audrey! I love yours! That is such a thought provoking statement. I'm going to have to remember that.
